The upcoming rescission package expected from President Donald Trump reflects what many of us have long believed: Washington needs to stop wasting our money on unnecessary programs that no longer serve the American people. This is why I believe we must defund USAID and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

USAID was once about humanitarian relief and countering communist Russia, but today I believe it’s become a vehicle for pushing a progressive agenda overseas — funding abortion, DEI programs, and environmental activism instead of focusing on real aid. Likewise, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting uses taxpayer money to support NPR and PBS — media platforms that I see overwhelmingly reflect liberal viewpoints and no longer reflect the values of many everyday Americans.

Mainers deserve better. I think we want to return to common sense, fairness, and fiscal responsibility. These programs should no longer be funded by the public.

I encourage Sen. Collins to support President Trump’s rescission package. I believe Maine families want responsible budgeting and government spending that reflects our values.
