St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor initiated a temporary system outage after finding a “data security issue,” the health care provider said Tuesday.

The information technology team at Covenant Health, which owns St. Joseph’s, detected the issue Monday, the hospital’s Chief Communications Officer Karen Sullivan said.

Phone and internet access at St. Joseph’s may be “intermittently unavailable” because of the outage. Patients are still being seen for office visits and hospital procedures, Sullivan said.

“Our team is working around the clock to resolve the issue and restore full services as quickly as possible,” according to an alert on St. Joseph’s website.

People should call 911 for medical emergencies.
