Downtown Bangor has been increasingly impacted by visible drug use and a growing homeless population. Walk through downtown Bangor and it’s impossible to ignore the rise in homeless people and needles, public intoxication, and the presence of people with substance use issues.
While many of these people are in desperate need of support and resources, the lack of immediate shelter options, treatment access, and long-term housing solutions is putting more pressure on the downtown area and the community that lives and works there.
For example, when working at Heroes Bar and Grill I got asked many times when leaving work for money just in the 30-foot walk to my car. I also witnessed many people high back there and also actively using drugs.
