State police are investigating the death of a paddleboarder on Crawford Pond in Union.
Emergency officials, who were called to the 600-acre pond at about 1:05 a.m. for a report of a missing paddleboarder, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in an email stating that state police are investigating a “suspicious death.”
The search team, including state game wardens and members of the Union Fire Department and Knox County Sheriff’s Office, found the woman’s body.
Wardens subsequently requested the help of the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit, Moss said.
The woman’s body was brought to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of her death.
Police have not released the woman’s name.
