Gov. Janet Mills’ visit to Canada was a nice gesture. I believe that most people in Maine think kindly of Canadians.

On Saturday, July 5 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in front of the court house in Houlton (on the border with New Brunswick), many people will visibly, peacefully show that support. My sign will say “Friends of Canada,” with a picture of the Canadian flag. All are welcome.

Called International Elbows-Up (a hockey term), these celebrations of friendship and solidarity will take place on that day all across the U.S. side of the longest border in the world.
