A South Portland man allegedly stabbed another man several times in Portland on Sunday night.
Samuel Gerry, 22, has been charged with elevated aggravated assault, unlawful possession of cocaine, trafficking in prison contraband and falsifying physical evidence, according to Brad Nadeau, a spokesperson for the Portland Police Department.
Gerry and the other man got into an altercation on Wharf Street about 11:28 p.m., and during that, Gerry allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the man several times before fleeing toward Dana Street.
Officers applied chest seals and other first aid measures while they waited for paramedics to arrive, Nadeau said Monday. The victim was taken to Maine Medical Center, where he was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.
Gerry was found a short time later after he was allegedly involved in another altercation, according to Nadeau.
He was being held at the Cumberland County Jail.
