Two Massachusetts women have died after a Saturday camper explosion in Old Orchard Beach.

Alesia Ventura-Large, 58, of Marlborough, Massachusetts, and Nancy Pilsch, 58, of Leominster, Massachusetts, were staying in a camper at Powder Horn Campground on Cascade Road, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

One of the women lit a candle about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, which ignited gas that had been leaking into and under the camper.

Both Ventura-Large and Pilsch were severely burned in the blast, and they succumbed to their injuries at Maine Medical Center in Portland on Sunday, Moss said Monday.

The blast remains under investigation.
