An inmate at the Mountain View Correctional Facility in Charleston died on Sunday.
Kevin Ayer, 58, died at around 7:45 p.m., according to Maine Department of Corrections spokesperson Randall Liberty. His death was attended by medical staff.
The Maine medical examiner’s office, as well as the Office of the Maine Attorney General, have been notified of Ayer’s death, as is protocol when an inmate dies.
In August 2016, Ayer was sentenced three counts of gross sexual assault.
