Beachgoers in Kennebunk should stay out of the water the next few days.
That’s because of dangerous rip currents and a high surf poses a serious drowning risk, according to York County.
It’s one of the effects of Hurricane Erin, a Category 1 storm that’s causing rip currents and high surf from the Carolinas to New England. As of Friday morning, Erin was backing 90 mph winds and was about 425 miles south-southwest of Halifax, Nova Scotia, The Associated Press reported.
Maine’s coast could see a 10- to 12-foot surf, with waves crashing at 17-second intervals, according to the National Weather Service’s Caribou office.
Mainers should use extreme caution near the water.
