The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for most of Maine on Saturday because of elevated fire danger.
Very dry air, gusty winds, and dead grass, leaves and twigs have combined to create conditions that could cause uncontrolled fire spread, forecasters said.
Wind gusts of up to 30 mph are expected to continue for a few hours after sunset, but should weaken as humidity levels rise.
The NWS urged extra caution to prevent wildfires, advising people to consult with fire officials before any open burning, never leave a fire unattended, and always extinguish campfires before leaving.
In Hancock County, Bar Harbor has banned campfires because of the dry conditions.
