A 70-year-old woman who had been reported missing on Aug. 15 has been found dead.
The body of Pauline Berardi was found in a wooded area near Williams Road in Newport on Tuesday at around 2:30 p.m., according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.
Berardi had been reported missing from her home in Plymouth, which is just outside Newport in southern Penobscot County, on Aug. 15. Although she did not drive, she was seen in a black sedan at the time of her disappearance. Authorities do not know who was operating the car.
Her body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office, where an autopsy will be conducted.
An investigation is ongoing.
