STACYVILLE, Maine — A Stacyville woman is in critical condition after the ATV she was driving crashed early Monday morning, according to Maine State Police.

Joyce Cummings, 70, suffered severe injuries in the 6:12 a.m. crash on Kelly Road and was taken by LifeFlight to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, police said.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police said the ATV was traveling on the road when items began to fall off the back, and the ATV appeared to turn and crash.

Cummings was thrown from the ATV and was not wearing a helmet, police said. 

The crash remains under investigation.
