Living in rural Maine can sometimes present challenges when accessing health care services, and/or paying for transportation costs. Many Mainers live in rural areas where medical facilities are few and far between.
This past year, many times I needed to have specialized care in Boston, and Modivcare helped my family and I tremendously. A couple of years ago, my husband needed cardiac rehab and couldn’t drive and Modivcare was there to help.
I read about the recent news coverage that several of our lawmakers want the state to re-evaluate its agreement with Modivcare. I’m concerned about what this means for Mainers in rural communities. Many elderly, disabled, and low-income families depend upon this service.
Modivcare has helped our family numerous times, not only on out-of-state medical appointments, but also for long-distance appointments within Maine. We found Modivcare to be very reliable and prompt in all their dealings with us. I believe that the service that Modivcare provides is invaluable to many people.
I hope that lawmakers will consider the impact of their decisions on those who need this essential service and access to medical care.
