UPDATE: The victim was identified as the homeowner, 86-year-old Vincent Dineen.

One person is dead after a fire in the Washington County town of Meddybemps on Sunday evening.

The house fire at 624 Main St. was reported just before 6 p.m, according to the state fire marshal’s office.

When firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames that had spread to a vehicle in the driveway.

More than a half-dozen departments responded and fought the fire in heavy snow conditions, according to the fire marshal’s office.

Investigators from the fire marshal’s office found the remains of an adult inside the home and are working to confirm the person’s identity and cause of death, the office said.

Additionally investigators returned to the scene on Monday to determine the cause of the fire.
