Two babies were welcomed into the world as Maine rang in the New Year on Thursday. 

So far, the first baby born in Maine in 2026 was a girl, Everly Hood, born to parents Mackenzie and Austin Hood of Pittsfield, at around 2:39 a.m., according to a Northern Light Health spokesperson.

The second baby of 2026 was a boy, who was delivered at Northern Light Mercy Hospital in Portland at around 3:20 a.m.  

Shortly after the baby boy was born in Portland, a baby boy was welcomed into the world by parents Aliza Padilla and Wiirow Barow of Lewiston at Central Maine Medical Center at around 3:35 a.m. The baby has been named Amir Barow.
