Gov. Janet Mills held a press conference on Thursday morning, days after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents increased their presence in Maine on Tuesday.

The increased presence caused alarm in many Maine communities, especially in the Lewiston-Auburn area, where many asylum seekers and immigrants have businesses, homes and families.

Mills warned federal immigration authorities last week that aggressive tactics are “not welcome” in Maine.
