Senior Maddie Cronkite scored eight points during a 10-2 run in the second period that broke open a close game and sent the third-seeded Camden Hills High School girls basketball team on their way to a 59-31 victory over sixth seed Brunswick in their Class A quarterfinal at the Augusta Civic Center on Friday afternoon.

Camden Hills, now 16-3, will take on the winner of the quarterfinal between second seed Hampden Academy and No. 7 Lewiston in Wednesday’s 2:30 semifinal in Augusta.

Senior guard Leah Jones scored a game-high 18 points for the Windjammers. Cronkite finished with 15 and junior guard Thea Laukka contributed 13 points.

Freshman Grace Roak led Brunswick with 14 points. Fellow freshmen Sadie Mullen and Emma Michaud had five points apiece as did junior Eliska Lomichkova.

The Windjammers were holding a 13-8 lead when Cronkite hit a jumper to trigger the decisive 10-2 spurt.

Following a Lomichkova basket for Brunswick, Cronkite answered with a pair of 3-pointers before Leah Jones capped the flurry with a lefthanded layup to make it 23-10.

The youthful Dragons couldn’t get any closer than 10 the rest of the way.

Laukka, the KVAC North Class A’s second-leading scorer, erupted for eight points in the third period after being held to one in the first half.
