The University of Maine men’s basketball team had its season come to an end as it fell to #3 NJIT, 60-58.
A back-and-forth first half broke out as neither side established more than a six-point advantage in the opening 20 minutes
The score stood at 32-29 heading into halftime in favor of the Highlanders.
Mekhi Gray led the way in scoring in the first half for Maine as he had eight points and three rebounds.
Ace Flagg had seven points and two rebounds while TJ Biel had six points and a pair of rebounds.
The Black Bears jumped in front early in the second half as they scored eight of the first 12 points to open up the half.
The two sides would trade the lead back-and-forth down the stretch in the second half, but ultimately it would be the Highlanders who came away with the victory, 60-58.
The Black Bears men’s team concludes the season with an 8-24 record.
Meanwhile, the No. 2 seed University of Maine women’s basketball team hosts No. 3 Binghamton on Monday at 6 p.m. in the semifinal round of the Air Force Reserve America East playoffs.
