ROCKPORT, Maine — Route 17 from Meadow Street to Route 90 will be closed most of Wednesday due to an overturned tanker carrying liquid nitrogen.
The crash occurred shortly after 6:30 a.m., slightly east of the intersection with Route 90.
The 18-wheeler was on its way to Fisher Engineering in Rockland when it went off the road and onto its side. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle and reported not being injured. The driver later, however, was taken to MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital in Rockport.
The truck is from a company in Sanford and is sending a truck up to the scene.
That section of Route 17 will be closed for an extended period. Fire department personnel and vehicles are at the intersections redirecting traffic.
The cause of the crash has not yet been released.
