ROCKPORT, Maine — Route 17 from Meadow Street to Route 90 was closed for more than six hours Wednesday after a tanker carrying liquid nitrogen overturned.
The crash occurred shortly after 6:30 a.m., slightly east of the intersection with Route 90.
The 18-wheeler was on its way to Fisher Engineering in Rockland when it went off the road and onto its side. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle and reported not being injured. The driver later, however, was taken to MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital in Rockport.
The truck is from a company in Sanford and is sending a truck up to the scene.
The road was reopened at 1 p.m.
The cause of the crash has not yet been released.
