Minor injuries were reported after a four-vehicle pileup on Rangeley Road leading into campus on Thursday morning.
The chain-reaction crash started when a vehicle stopped to let a pedestrian cross at a crosswalk at around 9:28 a.m., according to a statement released by the University of Maine Police Department.
The following vehicles failed to stop in time to avoid collision, and three vehicles were extensively damaged in the crash. Three of the four vehicles involved in the crash were towed from the scene.
The University Volunteer Ambulance Corp. arrived to assess the vehicle occupants and found no serious injuries.
A minor fuel spill was contained by the Orono Fire Department, which was assisted by University of Maine Facilities Management and Safety and Environmental Management.
Rangeley Road has been reopened to traffic.
The crash remains under investigation.
Correction: This story has been updated to reflect a report from the University of Maine Police Department finding that four vehicles were involved in the crash. An earlier version of this story misstated the number of vehicles involved.
