Thank heaven the depleted Bangor Mall has been sold. Thank you to the BDN for their various stories about it and the ongoing plans. Thank you state Sen. Joe Baldacci for his legal and encouraging legislative efforts.
Thank you too for the city planning and legal staff vital and necessary efforts to bring the former owners to account for their shortcomings and make it more receptive for the new owners, the Bangor Marketplace and Residences LLC, to buy. I think their preliminary plans will likely be of great social and economic benefit to the city and help meet some of the upper middle-income housing needs and beyond.
I hope though there will also be at least some low-income housing income opportunities right in the Bangor Mall itself. May the new owners be working with the city to help achieve that possibility. It would make the mall a place for all its citizens and reflect on the spirit of Bangor better.
