U.S. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina will be the keynote speaker at the Maine Republican Party Convention Banquet, Friday in Augusta.

Scott, who is chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, will discuss battleground Senate races and his efforts to maintain and expand the Republican Senate majority, the Maine GOP said in an announcement Wednesday.

Maine GOP Chairman Jim Deyermond lauded Scott’s Opportunity Zone legislation, which he said would “bring jobs and economic growth to areas that have been left behind.”

Scott served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2010 to 2013 and was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2013 becoming the first Black senator from South Carolina. He ran a primary campaign for president in 2023. In addition to chairing the National Republican Senatorial Committee, he is chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking.

“The theme of our convention is ‘For The People’ as Republicans work to gain ground and advance policies that will create more jobs and better paychecks for Mainers,” Deyermond said. “Senator Scott’s presence and support will represent wind in our sails and hope on Maine’s horizon.”
