The Millinocket fire chief resigned weeks after being placed on administrative leave.
Millinocket Fire Chief Jonathan Cote resigned effective May 19, Town Manager Peter Jamieson said Tuesday. The resignation comes after Cote was placed on administrative leave at the beginning of the month.
The town conducted a related investigation during the leave. That investigation has since ended, Jamieson said.
It’s unclear what prompted the shakeup. When asked earlier this month about Cote’s leave, Jamieson said he couldn’t share any information because it’s a “personnel matter.”
Cote was paid while on leave but could not contact any of his staff or enter the fire department without written approval from Jamieson. Second Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Farrington served as interim fire chief during that time.
Cote did not immediately respond to a phone call requesting comment Tuesday.
