U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky was defeated in the primary election on May 19. Massie was elected to Congress in 2012. That was 14 years ago.

Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell from Kentucky has been in office since 1985. That was 41 years ago. Democrat Rep. Nancy Pelosi from California has been in office since 1987. That was 39 years ago.

The House of Representatives has unlimited two-year terms. The Senate has unlimited six-year terms. However the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution set limits that the president can be elected for two four-year terms.

Today, I believe we need term limits for the U.S. House and for the U.S. Senate. It is time.

I think the House should be limited to six two-year terms and the Senate should be limited to two six-year terms. By comparison, 37 states have term limits on their governors.

Being an elected government representative is a responsibility, not a privilege.
