The Maine Trappers Association recently announced the creation of the Maine Game Warden Pilot Joshua Tibbetts Scholarship in honor of the late warden who died in a plane crash May 12 in Avon.
The group established the scholarship through its newly formed nonprofit, the MTA Outdoor Learning Foundation, and worked with Tibbetts’ sister, Tricia Clifford, on the effort.
“Joshua Tibbetts was a Nokomis Regional High School graduate, Maine game warden pilot, and by all accounts a kind, generous and selfless individual who cared deeply about helping others pursue their dreams,” the association said in the announcement.
“Through this scholarship, his legacy of service and commitment to others will continue to make a positive impact for future generations across Maine.”
The scholarship will help students pursuing education in conservation, wildlife, public service or related fields that support Maine’s natural resources and outdoor heritage.

The association said its long-term goal is to build a fund that can continue providing educational opportunities for Maine students well into the future.
Donations can be made through the MTA Outdoor Learning Foundation and will go directly toward sustaining the scholarship in Tibbetts’ honor.
