PORTLAND — As part of its ongoing commitment to ‘local helping local’, Town & Country Federal Credit Union has made a significant contribution by donating $3,500 to the Southern Maine Agency on Aging in recognition of Older Americans Month to support the organization’s Housing Connections Program in Cumberland and York counties.
The donation will help older adults remain safely housed by connecting them with legal support, housing navigation assistance and other critical community resources designed to promote stability, independence, and quality of life.
After meeting with SMAA leadership to discuss the organization’s most pressing needs, Housing Connections emerged as a program making a direct and meaningful impact for older adults throughout Southern Maine who may be facing housing insecurity or uncertainty.
“At Town & Country, our philosophy of ‘local helping local’ means investing in programs and partnerships that strengthen the lives of people right here in our communities,” Linda Halleran, community engagement manager at Town & Country Credit Union, said. “Older adults deserve access to safe housing, trusted support, and the resources needed to live independently with dignity. We’re proud to partner with SMAA to help make that possible.”
“We are incredibly grateful to Town & Country for recognizing the growing need for housing support among older adults,” Erin Rice, chief advancement officer at Southern Maine Agency on Aging, said. “The Housing Connections Program helps older adults stay safely housed by connecting them with legal assistance, housing resources, and individualized support. This donation will help us continue providing these important services to people throughout our community.”
Older Americans Month is celebrated nationally each May to honor the contributions, resilience, and impact of older adults while raising awareness about the importance of community support and healthy aging initiatives.
