Someone set fire to a U.S. flag hanging outside the Masonic temple in Bath.
The fire was discovered about 10:02 a.m. Tuesday at the Masonic temple on Washington Street, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The Maine fire marshal’s office ruled the fire arson, Moss said Wednesday morning.
Photos of the scene showed light charring to the temple’s entryway.
After the fire, investigators discovered someone installed a new U.S. flag on the fence in front of the temple, but no members or representatives of the Masonic temple did so.
Investigators want to speak with whoever installed the new flag to see whether they have relevant information to the arson case.
