A man was arrested Thursday after he led police on a lengthy pursuit through several Penobscot County towns, including through a public park, in a stolen pickup truck.
One cruiser was rammed and another was damaged during the chase, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies first located the GMC pickup in Hudson after someone called in to report that a vehicle was doing donuts in a public area and had sustained significant front-end damage.
The truck had been reported stolen from Bangor, where it had been involved in multiple crashes and had driven through a public park, generating several complaints. It had also been involved in a pursuit on Broadway with Bangor police.
When sheriff’s deputies tried to stop the vehicle, the driver reportedly took off.
During the pursuit, the suspect repeatedly crossed into oncoming traffic, rammed a deputy’s cruiser and tried several times to force pursuing vehicles off the road, according to a press release.
Deputies eventually deployed tire deflation devices but the driver continued fleeing on destroyed tires and then on its rims.
The pursuit ended when the truck entered a parking lot in Corinth and was struck by another vehicle, disabling it. Deputies took the driver into custody without further incident.
Andrew Wright, 22, listed as a transient, was charged with aggravated driving to endanger, eluding an officer, criminal speed, aggravated criminal mischief, trespass by motor vehicle and operating without a license. Additional charges are expected.
No serious injuries were reported.
