The Maine Cheese Guild is excited to invite the public to the 18th annual Open Creamery Day, taking place statewide on Sunday, June 14 — rain or shine.
This beloved annual event gives visitors a unique opportunity to step behind the scenes at participating Maine creameries and experience the craftsmanship, care and community behind Maine’s thriving artisan cheese industry. Guests can enjoy farm tours, cheesemaking demonstrations, tastings, product sales and family-friendly activities throughout the day.
Each participating creamery will offer its own distinct experience. Visitors may have the chance to meet cheesemakers, explore creamery spaces and aging caves, interact with farm animals and sample locally made cheeses and provisions. Some farms will also feature special discounts, self-serve farm stands and hands-on educational opportunities.
“Open Creamery Day is one of our favorite opportunities to connect the public directly with Maine cheesemakers,” Jean Koons, president of the Maine Cheese Guild, said. “There is something incredibly special about visiting the farms, meeting the makers, and seeing firsthand the passion and dedication that goes into producing Maine cheese. We’re thrilled to welcome visitors from across the state and beyond to celebrate our dairy community.”
The event highlights the Maine Cheese Guild’s ongoing mission to support and promote Maine cheesemakers through education, collaboration and public engagement. Since its founding in 2003, the Guild has worked to strengthen Maine’s artisan cheese community while helping consumers discover and support local producers.
