A wayward cockatiel got a hand from Bangor police in returning to her humans.
The small cockatiel named Sunny flew away from her humans’ home on Coldbrook Road in Hampden last week.
But her whereabouts remained a mystery until Sunday when staff at Fielder’s Choice Ice Cream on Odlin Road in Bangor spotted her in their storage garage, the Bangor Police Department said.
Officer Tyler Rusby and Lt. Aaron Brooker were dispatched to deal with the trespasser before she took to flight again.
When approached by the officers, Sunny surrendered, flying voluntarily to Brooker’s hand, before being placed into “protective custody.”
Bangor and Hampden police soon realized the trespasser was the missing Sunny, who was reunited with her humans, Sarah and Kay, who reportedly bestowed the cockatiel with “nice bird treats.”
The cockatiel is native to Australia and is related to the much-larger cockatoo.
