James Gailey was selected Maine County Official of June in honor of his community service by Spirit of America Foundation’s Maine Chapter.
Gailey has been serving as manager of Cumberland County since 2017. He oversees more than 600 employees and a budget exceeding $60 million.
Before then he spent nearly 30 years with the City of South Portland, including the last nine years as its city manager.
Gailey has been active in several community and regional organizations.
He served three years on the Ecomaine Board, over six years as a council member of Thrive2027, three years on the University of Maine at Farmington Board of Visitors and currently is on the Board of United Way of Southern Maine.
Gailey also has served multiple years as emcee of Cumberland County’s Spirit of America ceremony honoring volunteers for their outstanding community service.
Maine Spirit of America is a chapter of Spirit of America Foundation, an organization promoting community service.
