MADAWASKA, Maine — A Madawaska educational technician has been arrested on felony drug charges, according to the Madawaska Police Department.
Police on June 8 responded to a report of suspicious activity involving a vehicle on the elementary school grounds, the department said Wednesday.
The department’s drug-sniffing dog indicated the presence of drugs when it sniffed around the vehicle.
“A subsequent search of the vehicle’s trunk resulted in the discovery and seizure of approximately 5.8 grams of a suspected controlled substance, with an estimated street value of approximately $500,” Chief Jamie Pelletier said in the release. “Additionally, a quantity of controlled substance pills was confiscated.”
Police did not specify what drugs were seized from the vehicle.
Officers arrested 41-year-old Andrea Hebert, the owner of the vehicle and a school employee. Police charged Hebert with felony possession of a controlled substance. She was released on bail the same day after charges were processed.
Hebert’s vehicle is connected to another law enforcement matter that is part of an ongoing broader investigation, police said.
Hebert has not been on school property since the arrest and no longer works for the school department, according to Madawaska Superintendent Ben Sirois.
