A man allegedly shot two people in the face with a pellet gun in Lewiston on Wednesday night.

Ahmed Yussuf has been charged with aggravated assault and reckless conduct, according to the Lewiston Police Department.

Yussuf allegedly shot the first victim, a 60-year-old man, about 11:04 p.m. on Oak Street. Yussuf was in a dark-colored SUV that pulled up alongside the man, and the vehicle’s occupants began yelling at the man before Yussuf allegedly shot him in the face with a high-powered pellet gun, Lewiston police said Thursday morning.

Ten minutes later, he allegedly shot a 34-year-old woman in the face near Walnut and Bartlett streets.

Both victims were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston before they were transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where they were undergoing surgery to remove the pellets from their faces.

The man was in stable condition, while the woman was listed in serious condition, according to police.

Yussuf was arrested and taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, where he was being held on $100,000 bail.

The investigation is ongoing.
