A technician was injured Friday night when fireworks malfunctioned during a show in York.
The pyrotechnician approached a fireworks “cake” that failed to fire as expected about 9 p.m. during a display near York Harbor Beach Road, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The device then detonated, leaving the technician with first-degree burns, Moss said Monday morning.
Despite those injuries, the technician completed the fireworks display before seeking medical attention, according to Moss.
The technician was taken to a hospital in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
The technician worked with Central Maine Pyrotechnics and the event was sponsored by York Harbor Reading Room.
