A woman died on Tuesday afternoon after being struck by the Amtrak Downeaster train in Brunswick.

The crash was reported at 3:12 p.m. Emergency personnel arrived within minutes and found the woman dead on the tracks, Brunswick police said in a news release.

Police determined that the woman, whose identity has not been made public, parked her vehicle in a nearby lot and walked to the area where she was hit, which is not near sidewalks or road crossings.

The incident is not considered suspicious, police said.

The train had a crew and 18 passengers aboard and stopped after the crash. The railroad tracks were closed for roughly two hours, police said.
