The man found dead in a tent last December in Portland has been identified.
The remains were identified on June 2 as those of 50-year-old Joshua Creel, who was unhoused in Portland, according to Lindsey Chasteen, a spokesperson for the Maine medical examiner’s office in Augusta.
His body was found in a tent about 12:27 p.m. on Dec. 12, 2025, within the Fore River Sanctuary off Rand Road, a spokesperson for the Portland Police Department said at the time.
Police believe his body had been in the tent for a long time and that his death wasn’t suspicious.
In a Friday email to the Bangor Daily News, Chasteen said the medical examiner couldn’t determine Creel’s cause and manner of death because of the state of his remains.
