A propane explosion in a bus converted into an RV left one person seriously injured Tuesday afternoon in Ellsworth.
The explosion happened about 3 p.m. off North Street, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The RV’s occupant was taken to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital with serious burns, Moss said Wednesday morning.
Investigators believe the explosion happened under the propane range, likely ignited by the electric compressor motor from the nearby refrigerator.
It’s unclear where the gas leak originated. The RV was supplied by two 25-pound propane cylinders in its external rear compartment.
The blast remains under investigation.
