An Ellsworth man has died from injuries he sustained in a Tuesday afternoon propane explosion inside a bus that had been converted to an RV.
Bruce Spencer, 59, was burned in the resulting fire and has died from his injuries, the State Fire Marshal’s office said Thursday afternoon.
The explosion and resulting fire at 253 North St. in Ellsworth happened shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday, the office previously said. An early investigation found it happened in a cabinet beneath a propane range and was likely ignited by the electric compressor motor in a refrigerator nearby, but couldn’t pinpoint the source of the propane leak.
Two 25-pound propane cylinders in a compartment supplied the bus, according to the office. Spencer was the only occupant; he was taken to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital in Ellsworth with serious burns.
