Eight Maine counties caucus today to elect delegates for the Democratic Party’s July 25 nominating convention, the next step in replacing Graham Platner on the ballot against U.S. Sen. Susan Collins.

Democrats in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Hancock, Kennebec, Lincoln, Penobscot and Washington vote today, choosing 319 of the 500 total delegates before the remaining eight counties go Sunday. Those elected will join the party’s 101-member state committee to form the 601-person convention that will pick the nominee.

Troy Jackson enters today with 670 delegate candidates publicly backing him, well ahead of Nirav Shah and Shenna Bellows, who are tied at 445 apiece.   Here’s everything to know about this weekend’s caucuses.

BDN reporters are at caucus sites statewide today, along with partners from the Midcoast Villager and Lincoln County News. Follow along here for updates throughout the day.
