A state trooper deliberately rammed a stolen pickup truck Saturday night to stop a wrong-way driver on Interstate 95, according to Maine State Police.
The incident unfolded at about 9:19 p.m., when a Maine game warden traveling north near mile marker 186 in Bangor encountered a Chevrolet pickup driving erratically.
The driver brake-checked the warden and ignored emergency lights and sirens, according to police.
After the warden alerted state police, the driver used a restricted emergency vehicle crossover near mile marker 191 in Orono, accelerated to over 80 mph, then crossed back and began driving south in the northbound lanes near Hogan Road in Bangor.
A state police sergeant rammed the truck, forcing it into a ditch, where another trooper and a warden boxed it in, police said.
The driver, Lawrence Knowles, 60, of Norridgewock, was taken into custody after a brief standoff. The truck had been reported stolen from Skowhegan.
Knowles sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital before being booked at Penobscot County Jail. He faces multiple charges including eluding an officer, OUI drugs, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and aggravated operating after habitual offender revocation.
No officers were injured, police said.
