A four-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 on Monday afternoon happened as traffic slowed in the area where a state police trooper had pulled over a driver, according to state police.
The crash was reported just after 3:30 p.m. on the northbound side of the highway in the central Maine town of Sidney.
Based on an initial investigation, state police said 58-year-old Derrick Forbes of Brewer was unable to stop his Dodge Ram as traffic slowed and rear-ended a Mitsubishi Outlander.
Forbes’ pickup then sideswiped a Honda Pilot and a Toyota Tundra.
The driver and passenger in the Outlander were taken to Maine General Medical Center in Augusta with injuries that were not life-threatening. The driver of the Honda Pilot was taken to Thayer Hospital in Waterville with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, state police said.
Forbes was not injured.
Both of the northbound lanes were briefly shut down after the crash, and the right lane remained closed until the vehicles and debris were removed. The crash remains under investigation.
