Belfast’s Consumers Fuel Company building, whose hand-painted red, white and blue facade has made it a downtown landmark, is for sale.
The property at 12, 14 and 16 Main St. is for sale for $1.75 million. It consists of 7,500 square feet of total floor space among twin brick buildings and a third smaller building on just over a third of an acre.
The local fuel company, owned by three generations of the Holmes family since 1911, was bought by Dead River Oil last year. Dead River itself was sold to a private equity backed company in 2021.
The property currently houses a Sea Bags store and, in the small detached building, The Selkie’s Pearl, a shop selling zines, comics and clothing.
It is the second prominent downtown building in Belfast that is on the market.
Just a three minute walk away, 3 Main St., a 6,000-square-foot building directly on the waterfront is also for sale, listed at $1.8 million.
Anchored by the Nautilus Seafood and Grill, the building also houses Your Cannabis Connection, a medical marijuana dispensary, and has nearly 100 feet of waterfront and 14 parking spaces, according to the listing. The businesses are not included in the sale.
