An Eddington man who faced multiple charges of making threats, including one to kill the vice president of the United States, was found guilty by a jury on Tuesday.
Thadius Wind, 52, was convicted of three counts of transmitting interstate threatening communications and one count of threatening Vice President Kamala Harris, after a two-day jury trial in U.S. District Court in Bangor. He was found not guilty of one additional count of transmitting an interstate threat.
Wind made posts on the social media platform X threatening to kill Jewish people, Vice President Harris, Maine law enforcement officers and Elon Musk, according to court documents and evidence presented at trial cited by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The FBI identified Wind as the author of the posts and used a warrant to search his Eddington home in March 2025, where they allegedly found numerous swords. The U.S. Attorney’s office said the investigation and evidence at trial showed that Wind “held strong animosity towards the individuals and groups he threatened.”
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded to Wind’s property 14 times between January and October 2024. Wind’s behavior was escalating and becoming more erratic and aggressive toward law enforcement, court records said.
Wind has had multiple criminal sentences, one as the result of a 20-hour police standoff in 2021, according to previous reporting. He had engaged police in three standoffs in less than two years as of December 2022. He also had at least one stay at the Riverview Psychiatric Center in Augusta and court-mandated mental health treatment.
Wind pleaded not guilty to the threat charges and in May was found competent to stand trial.
On each count, he faces up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release.
