The Boot Barn is now open on Bangor’s Stillwater Avenue.
Maine’s third Boot Barn location is filling a large storefront at 710 Stillwater Ave. that was home to JoAnn Fabrics before it closed last year. It comes amid several other notable changes in Bangor’s retail scene, including a Five Below that opened this spring and a church that took over the old Books-A-Million property.
“Bangor really doesn’t have anything like this,” Alexa Richards, the Bangor store’s assistant manager, said.
The Western-style outfitter sells boots and clothing for adults and children. Its cowboy aesthetic fits right in with events like Bangor’s popular country concerts and the Professional Bull Riders tour that comes through the Cross Insurance Center in the winter, Richards noted.
The company’s net sales rose nearly 20% in the last fiscal year, and the company has been rapidly expanding, with plans to open 70 new stores this year.
Bangor’s store has been open since last week but has a grand opening planned for next weekend, July 31 through Aug. 2, with discounts and special events in the store like a prize wheel, a caricaturist, a chain stitch artist and performances by local musicians.
The store’s hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
The retailer didn’t have much of a presence on the East Coast until about two years ago and is looking to expand even more, according to staff. The Bangor store joins other Boot Barn locations in Augusta and South Portland.
