A pickup truck caught fire Friday afternoon in the parking garage of Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Bangor Fire Department responded to the hospital’s parking garage around 3:33 p.m., Assistant Fire Chief Chandler Corriveau said. There was heavy smoke coming out of the second floor parking garage when firefighters arrived on scene.
It was a Chevrolet Silverado that caught fire, Will Murphy of Brewer said. He was walking through the garage and saw the fire.

The fire destroyed the vehicle, Corriveau said. It appears the fire started in the vehicle’s engine compartment but it was too badly damaged to tell the cause, he said.
There was minor damage to another vehicle nearby.
“Everything played in our favor today,” Corriveau said.
There is some smoke damage to the parking garage and melted lights, which EMMC is already addressing. There was no structural damage, Corriveau said.
The fire response snarled traffic throughout the hospital parking lot and along Hancock Street.
