ROCKPORT — Midcoast Rec is honored to announce the opening of new outdoor tennis courts dedicated to the late Eric Lee, beloved coach and tennis pro. The dedication ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 30 at Midcoast Rec, 535 West St. In attendance will be award-winning tennis pro and coach Seth Meyer, representatives from the United States Tennis Association, Board President Barrett Brown, philanthropist Rick Bresnahan and Executive Director Grace Chen.
Tennis in the midcoast has been influenced for the better by Lee. He was a favorite coach for most of the kids who have grown up playing tennis in the region. His love of the game, humor and love of butterflies continue to resonate on and off the courts at Midcoast Rec.
After three years of planning and fundraising, the completion of the Eric Lee Memorial Courts marks the end of an expansion project aimed at increasing Midcoast Rec’s impact on our broader community. With the generous support of the community and USTA, the courts will be ready in time for the annual Eric Lee Memorial Tournament on Aug. 2.
“Great coaches leave an indelible mark on our hearts, and true friends leave a lasting legacy in our community. In dedicating these courts to Eric, we ensure that his enduring impact and commitment to midcoast kids will continue to inspire generations of players to come,” Chen said.
The event is free and open to the public. There will be refreshments, games and activities for all ages.
Midcoast Rec is a nonprofit sports facility providing active community opportunities to all. For 25 years Midcoast Rec has been dedicated to low- to no-barrier access, providing low-cost programs, free gear, free programs and space to local service groups and nonprofits, and financial aid to qualifying program applicants.
