Lil Wayne had initially been scheduled to play the Maine Savings Amphitheater on June 30 along with 2 Chainz to open his “20 Years of Carter Classics” tour. At Tuesday’s show, he apologized to concertgoers for his previous absence, but did not offer an explanation.
His absence in June became the hottest meme of the summer in Maine, with everyone from local businesses to fire departments posting AI-generated images of the rapper and humorous explanations for his no-show in Bangor.
Rapper French Montana and Maine-based artist C-Dot 416 opened Tuesday’s show to a mostly empty audience, but fans rallied when Lil Wayne showed.
Looking at the last two shows in July, Men At Work and Toad the Wet Sprocket and guest Shonen Knife will play next tonight at 6:30 p.m.
Joe Bonamassa and Gov’t Mule close out the month with a show at 7 p.m. Thursday.
There are at least eight shows planned for the Maine Savings Amphitheater between the end of July and mid-September. Tickets can be purchased online at the Bangor Waterfront Concerts site, or from Live Nation.
