A poacher killed a doe and left her body to rot in an apple orchard in Mercer.

The poacher likely shot the deer sometime between 11-11:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

The deer, which someone discovered Wednesday, was left in an apple orchard off West Sandy River Road.

Maine Operation Game Thief is offering a $2,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest or conviction of those responsible for the killing.
