Addi Laslie was an All-State, All-Region and All-Conference soccer player at Ellsworth High School and now she will be returning to her alma mater.
Laslie, who was the leading scorer for Bangor’s Husson University this past fall, has been named Ellsworth High School’s new head girls soccer coach.
Laslie, who graduated from Husson with a degree in business administration this past spring, is replacing Eric Terrill. Terrill is relocating to North Carolina.
Terrill was the Eagles’ coach the past five seasons and led them to the Class B North championship in 2023. It was their first regional title since 1999.
“I’m really excited to coach the program I grew up in,” said the 22-year-old Laslie. “I’m really glad for the opportunity.”
Laslie, who is employed by First National Bank, had 11 goals and 4 assists in 19 games for Husson last fall and concluded her 74-game career with 33 goals and 16 assists for the Eagles.
She was named the North Atlantic Conference’s Rookie of the Year her freshman season and earned All-NAC second team honors as a senior.
She was also chosen to the league’s All-Academic teams on multiple occasions.
She concluded her career by scoring both goals in a 3-2 loss to Castine’s Maine Maritime Academy in the NAC Tournament championship game.
She was selected to the all-tournament team.
Laslie does have coaching experience as she has spent the last two springs coaching for the Acadia Fire soccer club in Ellsworth.
Ellsworth athletic administrator Josh Frost said he is “excited to have Addi coach the varsity girls team, especially after the career she had playing for the Ellsworth Eagles and her years at Husson University. Certainly sad to see Eric Terrill go but a family move to North Carolina opened up the position.”
“I think you’ll see a lot of the core values that Coach Terrill instilled in his players continue with the girls soccer program,” Frost added.
She said she doesn’t know a “whole lot about the team this year” so she is going to take the first couple of weeks get used to it.
“I’ll see how everyone is and use tryouts as a good opportunity to get to know the girls more. I think there are 11 or 12 seniors so it is definitely a senior-heavy team. They will be experienced which will be helpful,” said Laslie, who was a forward at Husson.
“It was kind of the same my senior year the first year (Terrill) was coaching. We had kind of a senior-heavy class,” added Laslie, who was named a 2021-22 High School Scholar All-American by the United Soccer Coaches.
Laslie said she will cater this year’s team around the talent she has and is hoping to bring “more of an attacking mindset” because that’s what she’s used to.
“We will definitely be building out of the back and getting forward using wide spaces,” she said.
The Eagle girls and boys soccer team will be playing on the football field this season because the Del Luce Stadium’s field and track is being renovated.
The team’s first practice will be on Aug. 17.
